Frequently asked questions

  • Somatic breathwork is a therapeutic practice that focuses on conscious, connected breathing to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It involves deep, rhythmic breathing patterns that aim to increase oxygen flow, release tension, and stimulate the body's natural healing responses.

Somatic breathwork also incorporates elements of mindfulness, meditation, and body awareness to facilitate a deeper connection with oneself and promote self-discovery. This practice can be used for relaxation, stress reduction, personal growth, and emotional healing. What can show up after a session are feelings of bliss, deep connection, insights, relaxation, and clarity.

  • Your nervous system is the electrical network of your being. Over time, repressed emotions, unresolved trauma and/or chronic stress causes dysregulation of this network. When we suppress the expressions of our nervous system (it’s reaction to a stressor), we give the signal that the “threat” has not yet been resolved. The nervous system’s instinctual response is to stay activated, as a defense. After weeks, months, or years of being in a perpetually activated state, symptoms begin to appear. These often show up as difficulties in your health, your personal life and/or professional life.

When you allow these discharges to be completed, you heal trauma and stress on the somatic level thus regulating the electrical network of your nervous system. When you have a regulated and resilient nervous system, you have the space and choice on how you navigate life. You’ll find that things that used to trigger you, do so less. Everyday stress becomes easier to handle. You build resiliency in the nervous system thus providing a level of clarity available for you that wasn’t previously available, when the system was “clogged” with these unexpressed blockages.

  • This is one of the most powerful aspects of this modality- you don’t have to talk about any of it. Somatic based breathwork is all about the soma, or the body, and not the mind/psyche. During your session, your facilitator will help you stay connected to your Felt Sense (the sensations in your body), not the thoughts or stories that may want to come up from your history. It’s in this way that we allow the things we unconsciously hold onto to be released without the fear that often accompanies them.

  • Chronic stress results in the same nervous system reaction as what many of us would deem “traumatic”. If you live in our western world, it’s doubtful your nervous system isn’t living in a constantly activated state, thus causing the same dysfunction as those who have experienced “traumatic” experiences.

Trauma isn’t what happens TO you, it’s what happens within you as a reaction to outside circumstance. This means that we don’t have to experience any large scale life events of hurt, anguish, abuse, tragedy, etc to have had the nervous system’s equivalency of that response to our every day lives.

  • For all sessions, you can expect to be on-site for about 90 mins with total breathing time of about 60 mins.

  • There are only a few contraindications to breathwork, and they involve only a very small part of the population. During your intake process, you have the chance to disclose medical history; if at any time I do not feel it is in your best interest to do this with 100% safety, I will let you know!

For 99% of the population, this is just one of the reasons it’s such an amazing modality- it’s safe and has no detrimental side effects!

  • Zoom sessions are a powerful way to receive guided faciliation in the privacy of your own home. A few considerations—First, you’ll need a good set of noise cancelling headphones (AirPods work). Next, a space in which you will not be disturbed for the session, this includes kids and animals. This is in inward journey and, for you to get the most out of the time with yourself, being able to shut out all the possible distractions is key. Lastly, a space where, if you were needing to make noise (yell, etc), you would not cause anyone to have concern and/or feel like you must hold back a release in order to NOT disturb folks nearby.

  • The group sessions held several times a year bring the cost down significantly (see the ReUnion Class schedule for dates). For one-on-one, there is a 6 session package that brings the per session cost down as well.

There are limited sliding scale spots available for those who fall under a certain income limit; if you believe this may be your case, please reach out.
